Art Panels displayed on a wall

I wanted to do a blog post to enlighten people about the family portrait experience I offer to my clients. Many people see Dublin portrait studios or hear of people having these family portrait shoots but they have no idea how it works, what the costs are, and the process involved. It can also be a little scary when you don’t know what is involved with a service or how much of an investment it is. Hopefully, this information will help you take the next step to booking a family portrait shoot with me here in my studio in Raheny, Dublin.

There is nothing more valuable in your life than family. It is important to celebrate this unity and one of the ways we do that in life is by taking photographs of our family… gazillions of them, on our phones!!! If you are like me, I have about 20,000 images on my phone but rarely print any of these. I love my phone images and I love looking back on the old ones when the kids were smaller and cuter and I looked a bit fresher!

But wouldn’t it be nice to display your family images rather than keeping them on your phone?

It can be very tricky photographing children of certain age groups as we all know! Since the birth of our smartphones things have been made a little bit easier but it can be really challenging to capture a quality portrait of your loved ones or to find the time to do it!

Firstly, how often do you have all of your children clean and together at the one time? Plus if you and your partner want to be in the photographs who is going to take them for you? Even if you do have all your kids in one place, at the one time, and you all look clean and well, how do you get the best lighting and composure so that you look well in the photos? These are just some of the challenges you may face when trying to photograph with your smartphone or take pictures of your children at home. The results are some hurried, rushed, blurry pictures of your kids, perhaps with runny noses and a few stains down the front! Cute for sure, but perhaps not the best for framing!

This is where my service comes in.

I aim to create images for you of your family and your loved ones that you will absolutely adore and you will want to put big frames all over your home. These stunning frames are a reminder of your favourite people in your life how much you love them and cherish them. It’s a wonderful thing for children to be able to see their family unit together in a photo, on a wall and be reminded every day of the love you have for them. The frames will hang proudly in your home and will enhance your interior just like an piece of art. They create character and warmth and they invite people to ask questions about you, your family and your children. These family portraits will be the envy of all of your friends!

So how does it all work?

I’m going to break it down into steps so that it’s super easy to explain to you what happens here in the studio at a portrait shoot.

You will enquire about a portrait shoot with me, perhaps via email or a phone call.

I will email you my portrait brochure which outlines these steps, how it all works and an approximate idea of costs so that we know whether we are a good fit for each other. We start with a short zoom consultation, so that I can talk to you more about your photography needs, what you are looking for and how best to help you.

During the zoom consultation, if you are happy to go ahead with the booking, I take a booking fee of €100 to secure your date and time for your portrait shoot. This fee is for my time in the studio with you.

The portrait shoot takes place here in the studio in Raheny for approximately one hour. Here I take a range of different combinations of pictures for you so that you have a good choice when you come back to view your pictures. I entertain the kids with puppets and tickle sticks and anything really to make them laugh!

You come in to view your pictures 1-2 weeks later. This is where the real magic happens. You can enjoy a slideshow of these gorgeous new pictures on a large screen and then we will look at them a little closer to see which ones you would like to choose for your frames. I have some very cool software to help you to visualise how your frames will look on a wall in your home. We will discuss your budget and help you to place the correct pictures together on your walls. The prices for my frames start at €250 each. This is for a 10 x 8 print with a border behind glass in a frame of your choice.

I have plenty of other options for framing e.g. we can put three of your favourite images in one frame. This is called a triptych and prices start at €465 each.

Approximately 6-8 weeks later you will collect your frames here in the studio and hang them directly on your walls. The enjoyment you will get as you pass these images every day and appreciate your family, is immeasurable.

I strive to offer a high-end quality experience for all of my clients, resulting in beautiful portraits for their homes, and a great connection and friendship between us that will hopefully continue.

If you have any questions about my service and what I offer please don’t hesitate to get in touch with me I’ll gladly answer any of your questions. I really look forward to meeting more families this year and helping you to capture your children and family unit in some beautifully framed pieces for your home.

This review was so lovely to hear. This is Margaret talking about her new frames displayed in her home…

“My heart sings when I pass the photos. We will be back.”
